Witch conversation: Mika

Experimental local witch conversation, session activation, memory, and its limits.

Availability

Mika is an optional experimental witch conversation system. Availability depends on the executable: builds without the optional witch-language capability cannot activate the new language path. It is off by default in ordinary sessions.

The current source includes a newer language system and the earlier legacy pilot. The newer path is bounded local English parsing, world grounding and grammatical response construction. It uses no cloud inference, model download or NPC tool execution. It is separate from the existing optional Ava companion connection.

Talk to a nearby witch

  1. Open chat with T and enter /mika on.
  2. Stand within about eight blocks of a living visible witch.
  3. Type ordinary conversation in chat, then press Enter. No extra prefix is needed.
  4. Try asking who she is, what she is doing, why, where she is going, what she collects, what she remembers, or a word definition.
  5. Use /mika off to disable conversation and release pilot intentions to ordinary routines.

A witch may be busy, reserved, impatient or unavailable and decline to answer. Talk does not cancel danger, grant items, provide hospitality or replace the night-only rules for shell exchanges. Ordinary walking, broom flight, poison defense, home schedules, gathering, trade, theft and custody remain authoritative.

Memory and session state

The system can retain identity/personality, bounded episodes and relationships across saving. Actual observed transactions, assaults and releases can matter. Merely claiming that you gave a gift does not create a real gift event. Player claims remain attributed statements rather than becoming observations.

Activation resets when loading or opening a new world. Enable it again with /mika on. Persistent social memory can remain, while temporary conversational references, queued requests and transient plans are discarded. It does not train a general-purpose language model.

Inspection and comparison

/mika inspect identifies the nearest visible witch and reports current diagnostics. /mika talk explicitly selects a nearby visible witch. /mika debug on enables detailed traces. /mika legacy selects the earlier pilot for comparison; /mika on returns to the newer language engine when it is available.

Some local development packages include a separate Mika Language Room launcher, an isolated Creator demonstration with a named witch. It is a demonstration world, not a replacement for your existing save. The broader conversational subsystem remains experimental; a narrow supported domain is not unrestricted humanlike conversation.
