Catch a fish
Craft a fishing rod from three sticks and two plant fiber in the library's diagonal pattern. Fishing bait is optional: one wheat beside one carrot makes four bait.
Select the rod, aim toward water and right-click to cast. Watch the actual nearby salmon, trout or reef fish approach. When it bites and the bobber dips, right-click to begin reeling. The hooked fish is pulled toward you; catching it removes that fish from the world and gives the matching food item.
Bait is optional and is consumed when you cast if you carry it. The current version changes the cast message but does not implement a separate attraction bonus, so a bare hook uses the same fish-targeting routine. React within about 2.3 seconds of a bite. A blocked line, excessive distance or prolonged unsuccessful reeling can lose the fish. Clicking again before a bite retrieves the line. This is not a random treasure-loot table.
Launch a rowboat
Five planks arranged as a shallow U make a rowboat: plank/empty/plank above three planks. Select it and right-click a water surface with room for the hull. Right-click the boat to board, use WASD to row and Shift to leave. Find clear space beside the boat for dismounting.
Boats have physical hulls and interact with terrain and water. They slow when stranded away from a surface. A boat can be broken and recovered as an item. The ocean world preset has a real starting boat, but ordinary new worlds do not grant a free inventory boat.
Tame and saddle a horse
Offer a wild horse wheat or apples with right-click until it trusts you. Repeated offerings raise trust; by four accepted offerings taming is guaranteed in the ordinary trust routine. A tamed horse can be fitted with a leather saddle and then mounted with right-click.
The saddle recipe uses five leather and one iron ingot. Sprinting drains horse stamina; slow down or rest to recover it. Shift dismounts when there is a supported, unobstructed space beside the horse. If dismounting fails, move to a clearer place.
A leash can anchor an animal to a hitching post. Horse armor comes in leather, iron and steel. Settlement work horses can already belong to residents, so a saddled animal in a stable is not necessarily an unowned gift.
Pet basics
Wolves accept bones; wild cats accept raw or cooked salmon/trout. Once tame, they can also be fed appropriate meat. Shift-right-click a tame wolf or cat to switch between waiting and following. Breeding in the latest version has additional food and adult/cooldown rules; see the animal and breeding pages.
